| Abstract | Extensive research has been carried out
on many forms of on-line
communication available in the workplace environment. Web-based "talkers"
provide another alternative to this wide range of tools and the aim
of this research was to conduct an evaluation study of one such tool.
The "talker" chosen for evaluation is a new communication tool released by a company in America this year. It is constructed with Java and is a text-based synchronous communication tool that can be accessed via the Internet. The talker was used with two samples, an experiment group consisting of 52 students and a field study using seven students from the honours class. By triangulating information from the literature review and the two sample groups, this research provides a number of conclusions and recommendations that highlight the likely "fit" of one such talker into the workplace environment. |
