| Abstract | There have been an abundance of articles published discussing the issue of political problems in relation to information systems, which highlights the need to provide organisations with techniques of overcoming these issues. One method that was created to identify potential political issues within the information management sector of organisations is the Information Ward Model (Hart, 1999). This model claims to be able to predict the level of conflict that certain types of organisations can expect to encounter through linkages drawn from organisational theory. The Information Ward Model's applicability is analysed by conducting four cross-sectional Defence orientated case studies. An exploration has been made into the linkages that Hart has drawn between organisational types, to the level of conflict expected in an organisation. The viability of the model to identify political disputes in organisations will be discussed, providing evidence from the case studies which supports and contests this model. |
