What is Complex Adaptive Systems
Complex adaptive systems (CAS) is a relatively new interdisciplinary field focusing on studying the interaction and dynamics in systems with many interconnected components. Normally, these systems can be seen as a network, where the nodes represent the components and the links represent the interaction. Examples include the brain, crowd behaviour, economies, environments, genes, governments, societies, swarm of robots, and many others. The use of CAS as a lens to look at these systems is changing our views on how to design and/or control these systems; opening many new challenges. This winter school will take the audience into a journey in the world of CAS covering basic principals, tools, methodologies, and applications. The winter school will have a particular value for those who are new to complex systems, or those who wish to understand how to apply CAS in real-life situations.
